You want to argue gun control? Know what the hell you’re talking about then!

June 14, 2016

Anyone want to take a stab at what these are?

790.06 License to carry concealed weapon or firearm.

(1) The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is authorized to issue licenses to carry concealed weapons or concealed firearms to persons qualified as provided in this section. Each such license must bear a color photograph of the licensee. For the purposes of this section, concealed weapons or concealed firearms are defined as a handgun, electronic weapon or device, tear gas gun, knife, or billie, but the term does not include a machine gun as defined in s. 790.001(9). Such licenses shall be valid throughout the state for a period of 7 years from the date of issuance. Any person in compliance with the terms of such license may carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm notwithstanding the provisions of s. 790.01. The licensee must carry the license, together with valid identification, at all times in which the licensee is in actual possession of a concealed weapon or firearm and must display both the license and proper identification upon demand by a law enforcement officer. Violations of the provisions of this subsection shall constitute a noncriminal violation with a penalty of $25, payable to the clerk of the court.
(2) The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services shall issue a license if the applicant:

(a) Is a resident of the United States and a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien of the United States, as determined by the United States Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, or is a consular security official of a foreign government that maintains diplomatic relations and treaties of commerce, friendship, and navigation with the United States and is certified as such by the foreign government and by the appropriate embassy in this country;
(b) Is 21 years of age or older;
(c) Does not suffer from a physical infirmity which prevents the safe handling of a weapon or firearm;
(d) Is not ineligible to possess a firearm pursuant to s. 790.23 by virtue of having been convicted of a felony;
(e) Has not been committed for the abuse of a controlled substance or been found guilty of a crime under the provisions of chapter 893 or similar laws of any other state relating to controlled substances within a 3-year period immediately preceding the date on which the application is submitted;
(f) Does not chronically and habitually use alcoholic beverages or other substances to the extent that his or her normal faculties are impaired. It shall be presumed that an applicant chronically and habitually uses alcoholic beverages or other substances to the extent that his or her normal faculties are impaired if the applicant has been committed under chapter 397 or under the provisions of former chapter 396 or has been convicted under s. 790.151 or has been deemed a habitual offender under s. 856.011(3), or has had two or more convictions under s. 316.193 or similar laws of any other state, within the 3-year period immediately preceding the date on which the application is submitted;
(g) Desires a legal means to carry a concealed weapon or firearm for lawful self-defense;
(h) Demonstrates competence with a firearm by any one of the following:

1. Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission or a similar agency of another state;
2. Completion of any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course;
3. Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law enforcement, junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school, utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, or the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services;
4. Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement;
5. Presents evidence of equivalent experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competition or military service;
6. Is licensed or has been licensed to carry a firearm in this state or a county or municipality of this state, unless such license has been revoked for cause; or
7. Completion of any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle Association certified firearms instructor;

These? These are the minimum standards for a resident of Florida to obtain a firearm.

So first off please stop with the bullshit. You can’t walk into a Wal-Mart and buy an M60, or a .45 caliber hand gun on a whim. If you do, you, or the seller, or both, are committing felonies.

Does that make even a little sense? It’s AGAINST THE LAW.

So liberals, and anti gun folks, go ahead write the law that stops people from lying through the above sequence, or write the law that stops the sellers from skipping.

What? They already exist? They’re already felonies? That can’t be, because if those laws were in place people wouldn’t be able to acquire guns legally……

Make any sense?

Next. The AR-15 and the ignorance around what it is.

  1. The “AR” in AR-15? That does NOT stand for “Assault Rifle”, it stands for “ArmaLite” the original manufacturer of the AR-10 and AR-15.
  2. The fact you’ve been brainwashed into thinking anything with a barrel longer than 6 inches is an assault rifle is scary. Understand this very basic concept:
    1. An assault weapon is a weapon in which the firer pulls a trigger and the weapon discharges bullets until one of two conditions are met:
      1. The magazine becomes empty
      2. The firer removes their finger from the trigger
  3. The AR-15 is EXACTLY like this weapon :

EXACTLY! The firer pulls the trigger and one bullet is ejected. The gun then does all the work necessary for the firer to shoot again with just a pull of the trigger. The only limit to the amount of bullets that can be fired in a very short period of time is the size of the magazine in the weapon.

The first version, the “Assault Rifle”? That thing can spit out some 7-800 rounds a minute. BUT, that’s not the gun ANYONE is referring to, no one. That’s a fully automatic weapon, one trigger pull, many bullets.

The second one? The “Semi-Automatic” AR-15? That’s the version people buy. That version can fire in the neighborhood of 180 rounds per minute. It is against the law to turn a semi automatic into an automatic. Understand? Felony, or to put it another way? The law already exists.

BUT! Yes there is a but. The second version, like every single semi automatic weapon on the planet, is limited by the size of the magazine (hence the laws around magazine size). So it CANNOT fire near 180 rounds because if you had them, you’d be changing out 30 round magazines. Ask anyone that has served, people that are experts, they may be the ONLY ones that could get that close.

Most states have laws governing magazine size, I know Massachusetts does. Florida does NOT have any such laws.

You want to argue against magazines larger then 10 rounds then by all means. I think that is a legit and very valid argument in most cases.

You cannot legally create a fully automatic weapon from a semi-automatic without enormous amounts of paperwork and processes, and even then it’s illegal in most states. If you do, it is a felony. The law already exists.

Here’s my beef. I am not a gun nut by any means. I enjoy target shooting, I enjoy working on my proficiency with a sidearm, both in terms of self defense and accuracy. It’s definitely something that has become a hobby.

I was never a ‘gun guy’ growing up even though my dad was in the service and and avid hunter when we lived in Alaska. That being said I think I learned gun safety before I wore diapers, in Alaska being killed by a bear on the way to school is actually a legit possibility!

What I’ve come to realize, and I know it sounds condescending but it’s not intended that way, is that the people screaming the loudest about guns are the people least informed. You have no idea what the laws and processes actually are because unlike me, you’ve never gone through the process or taken the time to actually read every word of the law. You don’t understand the lies being fed every single day and it feels to me like many of you do not want to, for that would destroy the false argument you’re already making.

Try this on. Every single time you hear a liberal politician or Hollywood fraud say “assault rifle” know one of two things. 1) They’re ignorant to what the gun actually is, and that does matter or 2) They know the difference but they’re purposely lying their asses off.

Look, this is like everything else we fight about now. The second an American tries to stand for their 2nd Amendment rights, granted by our founding fathers (don’t gimme the bs argument about a ‘different time’, tyrannical gov’ts don’t have expiration dates) that person is a radical right wing redneck gun lover.

Just the same as every time I hear most liberals speak on this they’re “wanting to take all our guns”.

I don’t think either is true for the masses.

What I am now distraught about is the sheer volume of people calling for this corrupt, lying phony agenda driven group of divisive human beings in D.C. to make more laws. I can’t think of anything we need LESS!

People understand this, for the most part every single thing you clamor for in the way of new laws? THEY ALREADY EXIST!

It’s illegal to shoot another human

It’s illegal to buy a gun without a serial number

It’s illegal to enter a bar with a loaded firearm that is a ‘gun free’ zone

It’s illegal to purchase ANY firearm if you beat your wife, are on the FBI watch list and about 200 other things this sadistic piece of garbage was.

All these things are illegal, always have been.

More laws don’t stop the lawless, they hinder the law abiding.

You go back 20 some years, hell 50, and you look at the number of felonies committed BEFORE a mass shooting took place! There are, and for the most part always have been laws in place to ‘stop this’.

The kink? Criminals DO NOT abide by the law, that’s why they’re criminals.

Understand this very basic concept. More laws in this country will ONLY provide further barriers to law abiding citizens. Criminals by nature DO NOT follow them!!!

We are going to hear, and we already are, there were MULTIPLE signs and opportunities prior to this atrocity for this terrorist to be apprehended, multiple.

The other argument? “He acquired the weapons legally”. No, he didn’t He went through the legal process, but that process and or the people in it, broke.

Why didn’t it happen? I’ll give you one reason. Think back a few months ago.

This right here? This is the fault of liberals pretty much across the board.

Hell I’ve been a target of this very thing. I accused Islamic EXTREMIST of being like Hitler’s Nazi party and you idiots called me a racist! How on earth is comparing extremist to Nazi’s racist? Also, one more time, you do know “Islam” is not a race right?

It’s a fascinating debate, and always will be. The fact that no laws will stop this from happening should not deter us from continuing to try.

Hell I am all for hiring our veterans with medical clearance to be ‘boots on the ground’ security at our public schools.

Think the murders at Colombine would have just strolled into the cafeteria if 4 conceal carry former marines were on the premises and the students knew?

We need to keep the debate going. But understand this. The 2nd Amendment was there, and is there, for a reason. It will always be there for the very same reason. My prayers are that it is never truly needed again vs a tyrannical gov’t but I’d glad it exists in case we do.

To the families of this atrocity I can’t fathom the pain, I cannot fathom the loss and I pray I never have to.

God Bless

Curt Schilling

    They’ve won! The progressives have won. We now live in a society the totally rejects God and his laws. So, the violence and depravity increases, what’s the progressives solution? Give more power to the government and take more freedom from the people. Is that going to work? Has that ever worked? Maybe that was their plan all along.

    Curt, thank you so much for posting this….I wish more media folks would read and regurgitate the facts and stop using fantasy statements such as “assault rifle” and “automatic weapon”!!! Great Job explaining the differences!! Now, send this out to all the media groups that are calling it wrong!! 🙂 P.S. Hey from a fellow Matador!

    Good post, good synopsis, but # 3 is not correct when you say EXACTLY, suggesting there is no variance between a semi-automatic pistol and the Colt AR-15. While both come in a wide range of cartridge sizes the AR-15 can be chambered to a larger caliber (or metric) sized bullet with a much higher muzzle velocity and lethality. The two weapons FUNCTION exactly alike, which is obviously your point.

    we all know about the right to bear arms. but the way society is becoming polarised and the miltancy of certain sexualities clash. but a rigorous limitation of arms should be in order i think. just as how you were banished from espn. almost as awful when you got traded from the o s . ok curt!
