Ouch. I certainly envisioned the start on Sunday ending in a much different manner than it did, but it didn’t. For those second guessing anything, from me being in the game to my throwing a ‘hanging’ fastball, don’t. At 69 pitches I was fine, it came down to two horribly executed split fingered fastballs that both got whacked. I had Jason in a spot to do a bunch of different things to end the AB, and didn’t. Same with Derek. Two strikes and a litany of options, none of them being a split hanging on the inside corner.
As for the Toronto series all I will say is we ran into two guys that couldn’t have been more dominating. McGowen had as good a stuff as anyone we’ve seen this year. He was hitting the upper 90’s most of the night and his slider/cutter was hovering between 90-95mph from the first inning on. Burnett, well when AJ’s on he can dominate any lineup any day.
We made no excuses and have none, it’s on us. We’ll find out over the next 9 games who we are and what we’re made of. We played ourselves into this cushion and we’re at the point of using it up. Tip your hat to the Yanks for playing as well as they have too, regardless of how well anyone has done they’ve put themselves into this position by answering the bell when they needed to.
I would tell you we’ll do the same. We’ll right the ship starting tomorrow and get after it from there.
As far as FF goes, turned out to be a good week.
Meter got the beating he deserved and I managed to hold on in the Sox league when McNabb proved ineffective Monday night and allowed me to keep my lead over Mike Lowell.
This was Meter’s team
QB–MANNING AND PALMER
RB–TOMLINSON AND ADDAI
WR–STEVE SMITH AND ANDRE JOHNSON
My team was the same except I had Gore and Westbrook over Addai and Johnson, and I had Wilkins kicking instead of Graham. Westbrooks Monday night sealed the first of what should be 14 straight wins over John Meter Madden.
