Phightin’s! NBA ’08! Oh and ’09!

October 30, 2008

First things first. Congrats to the Phighting Phils, World Champs. A well deserved and great story. Hats off to Tampa as well, AL Champs and rightly so had a fantastic year. And I’ll go back a year or so and laugh at the idiots that crucified me for saying “Ya I’d play in Tampa” last year as something other than what it was. An open acknowledgment of how far that organization has come.

Cole Hamels, damn, that was impressive. He’s a force already and I see he, Jon Lester and Santana as the 3 of the top 5-6 pitchers in this game for the next 5-10 years.

The Celts get their rings the other night, and take down Lebron and the Cavs in their season opener. Pretty awesome stuff to see Boston sports continue to rise higher and higher across all the Majors.

Tim Thomas has like 412433 consecutive shut out periods, great stuff.

Oh and there is a new NBA Champion on the block. EA Sports NBA ’09 is now by a longshot, the best stinking non-Madden sports game I have ever seen or played.

EA is the first company to get the Fantasy league thing right! The NBA game allows daily downloads of players from the live, real world stats! Players are going to mirror real life streaks to a degree. Think fantasy football on Red Bull!

Great stuff and kudos to Peter Moore and the gang at EA Tiburon on another great product. I wish I liked Soccer because it seems the entire world of ‘European Football’ is going crazy over their FIFA ’09 game….

P.S. I forgot to mention Peter is still 0-1 from 50+ but thanks for the games! And Tana, thanks for managing those hooligans over there at EALA….

Curt, you should check out NBA 2k9. I admit to not having played the EA iteration this year, but the 2k series is consistently better, and this year’s version is a big upgrade from last year.

It’s tough being a Philly Phan up here in the great north region of New England, but I’m a happy girl right now. I just wish I could head down and celebrate on Broad Street with the rest of them.

Yes, kudos to Tampa and their valiant effort; it was truly an amazing feat to go from worst to first.

Wow Curt..NBA Live ’09 has been panned across the board. I’ve played it and was left unimpressed..NBA 2K9 is clearly superior.

Also – NHL ’09 is the best non-Madden sports game out there. It may even be better than Madden.

    Curt,
What platform do you play NBA on, X-Box or PS3?

Kurt, do you have any instructional videos on pitching? In my over 40 league I have lost a bit off my fastball, so am looking for some pitches to complement a mediocre (if that) fastball. I have a cutter, a 2 seamer, and a splitter. I’d like to add a curveball. Be interested to hear if you have any instructional videos or could recommend any for us old guys out here.

With Cole Hamels’ star on the rise (ok…risen!), any thought on asking him to join you when you do the “Pitch 4 ALS” fundraising functions? Looks like he’s already included with your list of “greats” on the top right portion of this page….

Cole Hamels is already a participant in Pitch fo ALS! He is an MVP on and off the field.

I too am a Philly but am still here. I can tell you that the city has been electric since Wednesday night. The parade was amazing: the weather was beautiful and everyone in the city was of one accord. We, the Philly fans, get a bad rap, but today our pride was peacefully apparent in the kindness that we showed to one another. This was definitely Philly’s Red October.

Congratulations Philadelphia Phillies! 2008 World Champions!

Congratulations also to Tampa Bay for bringing their A game and proving to be valiant opponents!!

I agree with you that Hamels,Lester, and Santana are three of the best(and the final day that he pitched before the season ended for the New York Mets,Santana pitched an incredible game;in addition to the Red Sox,I am a New York Mets supporter-Mets lover,Yankees hater-and am thrilled that Santana is part of the team)but once again you do not include yourself. May I remind you that next week at the dinner, one of the greatest moments for the team being honored is you pitching, bloody sock and all,and bringing the Red Sox to a World Series win. I do hope,as I have stated, that you return to pitch once again next year, with the Red Sox,so you can include yourself with the great pitchers of the season to come, but do keep in mind that the New York Mets also need pitching,we really need help, and you would be an incredible addition to the team. You and Santana pitching would be a fantastic combination. That said,I have always supported certain individual players, regardless of what team they play for,and you fit into that category, always. You will always have my support, wherever you go..but do not keep counting yourself out as being one of the greatest!

P.S. I am absolutely thrilled to hear that you have declared free agency for next season. Wishing you all the best, always, regardless of what team you are with. Please do not retire! There are plenty of people, teams, team management, players and spectators alike who want you back out on the mound, including me. Any team would be lucky to have you. You will always have my continued support,on and off the field, regardless of where you go. Good luck with your free agent negotiations.

I’d love to see EA resurrect Mutant League Football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutant_league_football) at some point. I think it would be hilarious if it were updated for the next-gen consoles.
