Dear Curt,

First of all Congratulations on bringing another World Series Championship to Red Sox Nation!

Secondly, I am very pleased to hear the news that you are returning to Boston for one final run. Your experience, talent, and leadership are a wonderful asset to the team and to Red Sox nation as a whole.

Thirdly, I am very interested in hearing about your new video game ventures with 38Studios. Do you have any more concrete news on your next video game? It seems you are going after the MMORPG market. But what is the game going to be about and why will people want to play it? Also are you planning to develop any other games and how does one contact someone at 38studios about game ideas?

Looking forward to seeing you pitch for the Red Sox in 2008 and good luck with your business venture.

"Counting on another company to meet deadlines for their product, so that you can utilize those features, is asking for heaps of trouble."

Amen, man. In my relatively brief coding history, I can't say how many times this principle has come around and smacked me in the face.

Whether it's on a small 5-man project or a modular inter-company design scheme, waiting for Party A to finish their project so Party B can sink their teeth into A's work is a project deadlock waiting to happen. I am glad to see you foresaw this.

Regardless, I'm sure 38 Studios will churn out some spectacular products in the long run...as long as your guys don't do anything crazy, like decide Java3D is the best 3D API for your MMO.

(Or anything, for that matter.)

Cheers

Hi Curt,

Regarding 38 Studios and your goal of making an MMO that breaks new ground in the gaming industry. I hope it is a continued success (I consider a solid foundation a pretty damned good success so far.)
I’m encouraged by what R.A. Salvatore and Brett Close said in the interview at Gamasutra.com. Bret said “We're not be driven by a publisher that’s breathing down your neck.” That’s great news since early release can be the death knell for a MMO as I’m sure many of your former Sigil / SOE talent can attest to. Also I was glad to see what Salvatore said since it echoes my own sentiments, “I don’t want anyone to hold my hand and walk me through something. I want to write my own books with my character. I would never – as a dungeon master and as now a game designer – I would never want to take that away from the player.” You’ll gain a loyal (and probably every bit as fanatical as RSN) following if that philosophy is maintained. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Sometimes it takes eighty-six years. Here’s to 38 Studio’s celebratory champagne shower being earned a bit sooner than that though, like say the three years we just experienced.

Curt,
I was just wondering... Seeing as you act as your own agent, any interest in acting as an agent for other players once you retire? Seeing as how you are approaching your own contract, I have to think you have more respect for the game than a certain agent with the initials S.B.

Thanks.

Curt,

If you leave boston you will be missed. You are a big part of team and you have been since you came here. You took notes on pitches and players. You go above and beyond for the team. I hope some day you will retire with the red sox and become a pitching coach or manager. You are a great player and a role model for the players and fans. I hope theo will make an offer and keep you in the city that loves you. I know what it is like to leave the city. I lived in Boston my whole life and then two years ago moved to nc, i miss it everyday.

Mr. Schilling,

I'd like to state first that you are, without doubt, my favorite baseball pitcher, and I'd like nothing more than to see you pitch your last year in Boston. You add something special to the team, and it was because of you that I am now a Sox fan. My dad grew up in Boston, but it wasn't until 2004 that I started watching the games. (Pretty remarkable for a fourteen-year-old girl.) Truly touching, that last game you played, when you tipped your hat to the crowd. Brought tears to my eyes, actually. I will most certainly be rooting for you, wherever you end up--you didn't include the Yankees, so I can say that with confidence. ;)

Secondly, I anxiously await getting to hear you on Friday. I signed up to go the minute I found out you were speaking.

Anyway, thanks for the great years you put in as a Red Sock, and I look forward to seeing you play next year. :)

Mr. Schilling,

First, thank you for your continued support of our troops. Im a CO CDR in an Army Airborne unit currently deployed. As a token of our appreciation we would like to send you some of our gear as SGT Grimm did. Where could we send this to you at? I was thinking of just mailing to Fenway? If you could send me a quick note at amslt@yahoo to let me know, I will get it out right away. Hope all is going well with the contract negotiations with the Sox. Hopefully you will retire in Boston and go out with another World Series title!!

Curt,

Greetings from Antarctica!

As a life long Sox fan I must say THANK YOU for your tireless work ethic, desire and drive over the past 4 years. You are a key reason that the Red Sox have won 2 World Series and you should take great pride in that. Your passion for the game is something I can only compare to that of Cal Ripkin Jr. You truly play for the love of the game. I also appreciate your honesty. Although it may bother others, I find it very refreshing. Your support of the military is also greatly appreciated.

I am presently in Antarctica at McMurdo station. I am a pilot with the NY Air National Guard working to suppport the National Science Foundation. I am confidant that aside for being in space, this is about as far from Boston as I can be.

I will say my prayers for you and your family that Theo and gang make the correct decision. You are part of the Red Sox family and deserve to retire that way. I hope all works out in the end. I know this is a business, but it is also about loyalty and you have more than earned ours.

Good Luck and God Bless. I look forward to seeing you in a Red Sox uniform next year! CONGRATS AGAIN and GO SOX!

curt,
I am very happy to say that I will be at the Reception tomorrow. I really would like to see you back next year. You should end your career where it started, since the Sox drafted you when you were a rookie.

Besides that, I want to thank you and Shonda. My dad was diagnosed with Melanoma late last year and a former friend of mine asked shonda if she would email me right after he was diagnosed. she did and it helped me get through him being sick. I really wanted to thank you for that and for the work that you and shonda do for ALS and Melanoma.

Thank you for helping bring a second ring to Boston in 4 years and I will see you tomorrow.
