Curt, I have always liked you as a pitcher and respect your opinion whether I think it is right or wrong. I was listning to your show with Costas the other night and you were asked if you left Boston could you play for the Yankees and you said no. Why not? Hatfields vs. McKoys?

The Bambino did it! Damon did it. Why not Curt. Pitching with Roger next year. Love to have you in pinstripes. What do you think of Johnny Damon going to New York? Being a Yankee fan I certainly am not a Boston fan but I do like some of your players. I am from Trot’s hometown in North Carolina and used to watch hm play in highschool often so I was always pulling for him to do well and I have always liked J. Damon, Big Papi, and you. I respect you guys and like your game.

Why did the Sox not resign Damon? I am glad you didn’t but am interested in knowing why. I thought he was the MVP of your world series year. Why did they get rid of him? Great player. Are you still friends?

Curt you said what most Baseball fans are thinking. Bonds is a lying cheating disgrace to the game. Sounds like he’d fit in in Pin stripes.

Still I don’t totally agree with coming out with the comment. The team’s rolling right now and theres no need to create a distraction. However I respect that you admitted the move as a mistake and apologized

PS The series vs. San Fran at Fenway will be a good one after this.

You’re comments might not have been politically correct but they were rite
on the money and you’re opinion is shared by alot of baseball fans around
the country ..excpt in San Francisco but what do they know….

You are said to be “the pot calling the kettle black.” I’m not a Bond’s fan at all, and am convinced personally that he’s taken steroids (knowingly). But I saw no value in your involvement in the situation, and also thought your personal attacks against Bonds (cheating on wife and taxes, etc) were way over the line from a professional athlete with the religious beliefs we seem to share.

I understand your apology but I have not heard you say why you felt the need to hurt Bonds’ family. Can you tell us why you wanted to do that? Should I name the guys in your clubhouse who have admitted to cheating on their wives and the ones who hacve cheated and have not admitted doing so?

I just do not understand it and no wonder you are being critisized in your own clubhouse.

Even though this is a touchy subject, someone with a name needed to say something about it. Many people share the same views on the matter. Bonds coming close to breaking this record, but it’s a disappointment because he didn’t make it just with pure talent. Bonds is a fake in this sport and he doesn’t deserve any fame for what he does anymore. I love the sport and just wish people could try and play off of the talent they’ve got. You’re gonna have an awesome season Curt, and everyone knows it.

Funny, for being such an outspoken guy who genuinely seems to care about things I thought I could have counted on you to do one of two things . . . a) respect free speech and publish my post or b) hold off and e-mail me to see what DestroyBarrysBall.com is trying to accomplish. You know, most people have to do the best they can — Not everyone has a multi-million dollar platform to speak from.

And one of the things I would still be happy to discuss is whether ALS might be another worthwhile cause to get people to donate money to. The website could offer choice between the American Cancer Society, ALS, The Jimmy Fund, other semi-national charities . . .

I admire a man who is willing to admit and work to correct his mistakes. It’s admirable, and even though many have already said it right here on your Blog, I’ll say it again.

All that said, however, your comments circle a ring of truth. Would you have said what you said if Barry Bonds were the most honorable and likeable fellow on the planet ? Of course not. And nobody would feel anything but giddy at what’s about to happen . . . Hank Aaron’s all-time Home Run record being broken.

But we all know that’s just fantasy land. We live in the real world where Barry Bonds is by just about everyone’s account at least a bit of a jerk (if not a total one). Add in questions about steroids, and we’re left with a situation that no one feels good about.

That’s where http://www.DestroyBarrysBall.com comes in. We’re not after Barry — We’re just after the ball and what a special ball like this represents. Our goal is to raise money, buy the ball and donate process to charity, and then destroy the ball by making a video of its ‘decommissioning’ as we call it and then posting the video on YouTube. Baseball prides itself on the physical objects of the game, but no one believes in this ball. Simply put, the ball’s gotta go.

I would have you go back to 2001 Sports Illustrated article when Barry was on the verge of surpassing the 70 home run mark in a season. Curt had some very complimentary quotes about Barry Bonds saying he “I haven’t seen him miss a pitch this year”…. “its amazing that so many teams pitch around him, you would assume he mentally would get behind the 8-ball. He hasn’t done that, which is further testament to how great a hitter he is”…. He and Alex Rodriguez let the ball get deep on them, more so than any hitters I’ve faced… they react quicker than most other people.”

So Curt, when did your attitude toward Barry change? After Barry lit you up for three homers in 2001? Or are you just an authority on everything? So, I presume you must think A-Rod cheated on baseball too? And that steroids help you mentally to avoid the 8-ball and to be quicker with the bat? Barry is just a damn great hitter. Steroids don’t do that.

Curt, I cannot trust a single word out of your mouth. Never could, never will.
